Best Practices

Organizations

Posting Your Project
  • Include as much detail as possible when describing you project, deliverables, and desired work experience.
  • Remember, the project posting is meant to be indicative and is not binding. That said, the more accurate the posting is, the faster you will be able to agree on final terms with a Professional and begin work.
  • Remember that you can post your project anonymously if you would like.
  • Remember that the price you indicate will determine the types of Professionals who apply to your project. We are happy to help you with pricing if you need. Please contact us at admin@sparehire.com.
  • Only post projects if you have a high probability of needing a resource. Routinely posting projects that get delayed or cancelled will negatively impact your ability to attract great professionals.

Picking Your Professional
  • Look for professionals that have the most relevant work experience to your project and have indicated a strong interest in your project in their application message.
  • Speak to multiple professionals. We encourage Organizations to do as much vetting as needed. Request and conduct reference checks, particularly for larger, higher stakes projects. Ask for work samples if relevant.
  • Feel free to reach out to admin@sparehire.com for help selecting a Professional.

Completing Work
  • Before beginning work with your professional, always execute a consulting agreement and, if applicable, a confidentiality agreement. The consulting agreement should include as much detail as possible about the engagement, including: specific deliverables, how the work product should look / function, timelines and milestones, payment rates and terms, etc. We have sample consulting agreements to help you with this process. A detailed consulting agreement goes a long way towards ensuring that expectations are met on both sides of the project.
  • Agree on the frequency and method of communication you prefer (daily, weekly etc).
  • Communicate early and often to make sure things start off on the right foot.
  • Request work-in-progress as frequently as needed and make adjustments early on in the process, particularly for hourly projects.
  • Pay and provide feedback in a timely manner! Your Professional will appreciate it.
  • Last but not least, get to know your professional! SpareHire is about more than just completing projects - it’s about building relationships.

Creating Your Profile
  • Be thorough in your profile, including as much historical work experience and education as possible. Having an incomplete profile will significantly reduce your chances of landing a project. Organizations may not look at your attached resume when evaluating your application.

Applying to Projects
  • Apply to projects where you feel qualified to deliver great results. This increases the chances of getting selected for projects as well and having a positive experience with the project. If you apply to too many projects that don’t fit your professional background, our system may automatically suspend your account.
  • Be realistic about your availability when applying to projects.
  • Indicate your interest and any relevant qualitative information in your application message.

Completing Work
  • The project posting is not binding. Before beginning work, make sure any questions or key terms are outlined in as much detail as required in an executed consulting agreement, including: specific deliverables and how should they look / work, timelines, milestones, payment rates, terms etc. We have sample consulting agreements here to help you with this process. A detailed consulting agreement goes a long way towards ensuring that expectations are met on both sides of the project.
  • Make sure you are provided with all of the resources you need to perform the work. You are expected to have basic resources, including a computer, Internet access, and commonly used software such as Microsoft Office. Other resources like research portals should be provided by the Organization.
  • At the start of the project, agree on the type and frequency of interaction you and the organization prefer (daily, weekly etc).
  • Communicate early and often to make sure things start off on the right foot.
  • Share work-in-progress as needed, and make adjustments early on in the process, particularly for hourly projects.
  • Complete work in a timely manner.
  • Last but not least, get to know your Organization and be friendly, professional, and courteous! SpareHire is not just about completing projects - it’s about building relationships.
